Arriving at class

  • Arrive at least 5-10 minutes early to get settled on your mat.
  • Take off your shoes before you enter the studio.
  • Turn off your cell phone or better yet, leave it outside the studio.
  • Practice good hygiene and bring a towel if you tend to sweat.
  • Please don’t wear perfume/cologne. Yoga focuses a lot on breathing, and fragrances tend to irritate sinuses and nasal passages.
  • Limit talking in class. If you have a burning question for the teacher during class feel free to ask, but keep discussions to a minimum.
  • We provide yoga mats to borrow (for free!). Inquire at the front desk for our recommendations about buying a mat.
  • Give yourself 5-6 classes to begin to get comfortable with yoga.  Like any new physical activity, it’s normal to feel a little sore as you begin to work your muscles in a new way.
  • Drink plenty or water before and after class but limit water intake during class.
  • Take your last meal at least 60 minutes before class. Doing some poses on a full stomach may be uncomfortable.
  • You don’t need fancy or expensive yoga clothes! Wear comfortable clothes that will move with you. We recommend more fitted clothing as it allows your teacher to see your body’s alignment.
  • Speaking of alignment, our teachers will most likely gently touch your back, move an arm or occasionally adjust your body in certain yoga postures. They are trained to bring your body into proper alignment to help you avoid injury and get the most out of each pose. If you don’t wish to be touched, please tell your teacher before class.
  • Always listen to the way your body reacts to different postures. Honor what it tells you about going deeper or easing off any poses. Only you know what’s best for you.
  • Leave your ego at the door and remember that yoga is not a competition and there are no perfect yoga poses. Have some fun with it!
